Holy smokes. Among the many crazy Apple numbers we’re seeing just lately, here’s one that boggles the mind: on Thursday of this week Apple’s stock had a very good day and its market capitalization hit a number that is greater than the value of Google and Microsoft combined.
That’s amazing. Microsoft has long been the 800 pound gorilla in the tech arena and Google has had an equal sort of presence for many years now. For Apple to be worth more than both combined is just incredible. So are comparisons like these shared by Apple Insider (via Fortune Tech) in their report on this – at Thursday’s market capitalization Apple is:
Worth more than all the gold in the Federal Reserve
Worth more than 2.5 Apollo space programs and more than the gross domestic product of the country of Sweden.
And here’s my favorite that was noted by MG Siegler after Apple’s most recent earnings report:
Last quarter’s revenue for just the iPhone was more than Microsoft’s total revenue for the most recently reported quarter. That’s Apple’s iPhone business alone is now bringing in more than all of Microsoft!
I’d love to be a fly on the wall in business school classes ten years from now looking at Apple’s incredible run.
