VLC 2.0, the traffic cone-iest open source media player ever made, is now available for download on your Mac. There are a ton of technical highlights of the 2.0 features on the VLC homepage, but I’d actually recommend reading this VLC 2.0 MacStories post instead, which sums up the more accessible aspects of the update, and also includes an interview with some of the minds behind this release.
I can’t comment any more on how the release feels because my Mac is currently significantly out of arm’s reach, but it’s an easy recommendation for a download. VLC has always played everything I’ve thrown at it, and I’m curious to see whether this update — in particular its new one-window design — will make it more of a viable music player for me.
