I have a note-taking app that I use almost daily; it works best in portrait and I’ve been setting my iPad flat – which adds to glare from lighting, not really ideal. I tried your trick on a wooden desk and found that my iPad had a worrisome tendency to slide forward. I solved that problem by placing my fabric iPad case on the desk in landscape orientation; then placed the folded Smart Cover on that; then placed the iPad on the folded cover per your instruction. The fabric case is thicker along the edges because of the seams, and that provides just enough traction to keep the device secure.
