Today, as widely expected, Apple unveiled a new model of the iPad – which they curiously declined to name during the announcement, instead referring to it only as “the new iPad”. “The new iPad” offers several new features including a Retina Display, 4G, and a new camera to rival the iPhone 4’s camera. Without further ado, here’s what you need to know:
New Features:
- Retina Display (2048×1536 pixels – 264ppi, versus 1024×768 on iPad 2). 1 million more pixels than HDTV!
- New A5x CPU with Quad-core graphics.
- Rear 5mp iSight Camera with the same optics as the iPhone 4S.
- HD Video recording in 1080p resolution with built-in stabilization.
- Voice Dictation, just like the iPhone 4S.
- 4G LTE with support for Verizon and AT&T’s LTE networks (up to 73 Mbps), plus HSPA+ support (21 Mbps) and HSDPA (42 Mbps). Canadian support for Telus, Rogers, and Bell.
- Personal Hotspot ready.
- 3G World ready – multiple frequency coverage for world-wide access.
Specifications:
- The same 10 hours of battery life, and 9 hours on 3G.
- 9.4mm thick, 1.5 pounds.
- Same 9.7” screen as current iPads. In other words, the exact same form factor.

The new iPad will be available on March 16th, and will have the same prices and capacities as the iPad 2. Pre-orders will be taken starting today.
Apple also announced that:
- Siri will be available in Japan, expanding it to a huge growth market for the iPhone. It is available as part of…
