iMessage is predictably awesome for the sharing of video clips, picture messages, and voice memos. Media can be sent to any iOS 5 device, and the data-centric nature of the service means that smartphone users can sidestep all of those icky MMS fees.
But I’ve got one pet peeve with the service: it doesn’t allow you to save the voice memos you receive. I’ve got a lot of friends who share stupid little voice clips with me, and although I can easily save photos and videos to my camera roll, voice clips are stuck in iMessage. I looked for a save button on both my iPhone and my iPad, but found nothing.
Thankfully, the new Messages beta for OS X Lion allows you to drag and drop files right out of the app. So if you’ve been looking for a way to save precious voice clips for blackmail, you’ll definitely want to give the new Messages beta a download. It looks like it’s the only way to preserve that recording of your friend acting like a Russian boxer offering Llama milk to all of his friends (don’t pretend this hasn’t happened to you).
