Apple CEO Tim Cook Visits Headquarters of Gaming Giant Valve [UPDATED]

valve_logo.jpgAppleInsider is reporting that late last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook stopped by Valve headquarters for an unknown reason. Valve of course, is the company behind the Steam distribution platform which sells big-name video games via the internet. Valve is also famous for their high-quality video games that take years to develop.

It’s worth noting that Valve is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, so if Cook took a special trip, it was over something important. This line of thinking leads to the conclusion that the two companies might be collaborating on something.

Just shy of two years ago, Valve brought their Steam platform and their big-name games to the Mac. The service launched with over 60 games, and has grown nicely since then. Then, earlier this year, Valve released a Steam companion app for iOS, which allows users to browse and purchase games from the store for later download on their computer.

Who knows what the two companies are cooking up, if anything at all. I suspect Apple is asking them to bring their games to the Mac App Store, or perhaps tie Steam into the store. Or perhaps bringing games to iOS. Who knows, but as a fan of both Valve and Apple, I hope they do something great together.

[UPDATE] Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve has denied this report in a podcast interview. This just dashed all of my hopes and dreams.
