As promised, Apple has released iOS 8 to the public ahead of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus release coming this Friday.  Over 4 million consumers have already taken advantage of the pre-order options offered by Apple and mobile carrier companies.  Apple reported an “incredible response” in pre-order interest and that they have shattered their previous record for pre-orders set with the iPhone 5.

The iOS 8 download is available as a free-upgrade to the public.  To download it on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch simply go to the Setting app on your device and select General–>then Software update.  Make sure before you attempt the upgrade that your device has at least 50% battery available or you will not be able to complete the install.  However, if you have your device plugged in, the amount of available battery is of no concern.

iOS devices eligible for upgrade include

  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5C
  • iPhone 5S
  • 5th Gen iPod Touch
  • iPad mini
  • iPad 2
  • iPad 3
