So you decided you want to give Family Sharing a try and you have children under the age of 13 that you want to add to your plan. No problem, we’e got you covered. By creating an Apple ID for your child it will automatically be added to your Family group.
One of the first thing to consider is the payment method you are currently using on your iTunes account. If you default payment method is with a debit card, you will have to add/replace that card with a credit card in order to confirm you are indeed an adult. iTunes uses the security code on the credit card to confirm that you are giving consent for the child to use the account.
To create the Apple ID follow these easy steps…
- Open your Settings App–>iCloud–>Family–>select Create Apple ID for child
- Select your child’s birthday from the menu
- Accept the privacy disclosure agreement
- Enter that security code from your iTunes credit card
- Enter the child’s name, and follow instructions to create an Apple ID
- Set a password and a security question
Now your child can make purchases, with your consent, using their own Apple ID. The Organizer’s email address will be used as the rescue address to reset passwords if forgotten. Your child can now access all the same shared material as everyone else in the Family Group, including music, apps, books, movies and TV shows. Even though they can access the shared material by default, you can still go into settings and restrict whatever content you do not want them to have access to. In addition, the “Ask to By” feature is also on by default for children under 13 allowing you to decide from your own device whether you want to grant them access to material they request to buy.
