With the introduction of iOS 8, we saw a shift in the core philosophy of how Apple managed their operating system. For the first time they opened up iOS to a variety of third party applications that, until now, were reserved for the native Apple apps that came pre-installed on every new iPhone.
At their World Wide Developer Conference last June, Apple made iOS 8 more accessible for developers than with any previous version of iOS. They emphasized their inclusion of over 4000 new API’s that will allow iOS developers to access content and functionality that had previously been off limits. With this new push to allow extra functionality within iOS 8, Apple began allowing developers access to iOS capabilities that will help them make apps and update current apps for a more personalized experience for the consumer.
One of the awesome new features now available to all iOS 8 users is the ability to add a third party keyboard as make it your default keyboard. Here’s how…
First, you need to purchase and install one of the new keyboards in the App Store. After you have downloaded one of the new keyboard apps, then go to then select…
Settings–>General–>Keyboard–>Keyboards–>add new Keyboard–>select purchased third party keyboard. Then to allow keyboard access within iOS, select to allow full access. Now when you are in an app where you want to use a keyboard you can select the third party keyboard by pressing and holding down the globe icon on the bottom left corner. When you hold down on the button you will be able to choose from all of your available keyboards.
