The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been on sale for over a month now, and both are still very hard to find in stores. From my experience I already knew the 6 Plus was hard to come by because of the high demand and limited inventory. However it turns out that most stores (Apple retail, BestBuy, Target, Radio Shack, carrier stores, etc) still have very limited supply even weeks after the the launch here in the US.
My son’s birthday is next week, and I was under the impression that I would be able to walk into my local carrier store, or at the very least, one of the three Apple retail stores in my area and pick one up with no problem–especially since he was getting the iPhone 6 and not the illusive 6 Plus.
I decided to start my search with the Apple Store App. It was easy enough–simply launch the app, select shop at the bottom of the screen and then iPhone to sort through your purchase preference. Unfortunately that method came up short for me. Next, I called my local AT&T rep to see what inventory looked like at his store. To my amazement, he hasn’t had any iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus inventory since launch day!
That’s when I went on to plan C–search the internet and write about my findings here for all of you.
First stop was the iPhone 6 Tracker. This is a pretty simple site to navigate. All you have to do is select whether you want to be notified by email or phone–add your email address or phone number–the model iPhone 6 you are looking to buy, and then your zip code. The site says it will notify you when your selected stock is available at the three closest Apple Stores in your area for personal pick-up.
One additional option–and my current method for checking iPhone 6 inventory is iStocknow. This is a live inventory tracking website that filters search results by iPhone model, carrier, color and storage capacity. You can further narrow your search by your zip code. At this point you can refresh as needed, and you will see results of inventory from Apple Stores, BestBuy, Target and Radio Shack.
